Day 4 Recap: NFL FLAG Championships Presented by Toyota

That’s a wrap! With everything on the line, NFL FLAG teams brought their absolute best on the last day of NFL FLAG Championships Presented by Toyota. Here’s a quick recap of the action ICYMI.

18u Girls

The 18u Girls division saw intense semifinal and championship games this afternoon. The Apex Predators triumphed over the Bad Rabbits with a decisive 28-7 victory, while S.I.G pulled off an upset against reigning champs, Texas Fury, clinching a 7-0 win with a second-half surge.

In the final showdown, S.I.G continued their dominance, overpowering the Apex Predators with a 28-7 victory.

“In all honesty, I relied on my team so much,” said Allison Gandlin, wide receiver and safety for S.I.G and the 2023 NFL FLAG Player of the Year. “I wouldn’t be where I am today in any aspect—in flag football or school—without this team.”

Upon receiving their championship rings, Coach Vinny Baccale praised his team: “They are the best group of girls and the best team of football I’ve ever coached. They earned and deserved it. We set up practice for 2 hours, but they want to go for 4 hours. They’re always working and seeing what they need to do to get better.”

MVP honors were presented by Izell Reese, CEO of RCX Sports, the operating partner for NFL FLAG, to Valentina Fanetti.

“Thank you to all of my team—who always has my back—I love you guys,” Valentina said. “I hope every girl gets this experience. I hope every tournament is like this.”

Heading into halftime with a narrow 5-point lead, Metro Select dominated the second half, securing the title with a commanding 38-13 victory against Lockdown Legends. This win cements Metro Select's status as back-to-back champions.

“We’re really excited for these boys—it’s been an awesome experience,” said Metro Select Coach, Derek Frye, who is also the 2024 NFL FLAG Coach of the Year.

Izell Reese presented the MVP award to Daniel Berry of Metro Select, who made three critical interceptions during the game, earning him the repeat MVP honor.
