Coaching in NFL FLAG leagues is more than teaching skills—it’s about fostering a supportive environment where young athletes can thrive. Here’s what you need to know about coaching requirements and what it takes to lead a team in our leagues.
The only requirement to become an NFL FLAG coach is that all coaches must undergo a background check conducted by our official partner, Checkr. If you’d like to learn more about our background check process, you can visit this webinar recording as well.
NFL FLAG coaches have access to a variety of resources designed to enhance their coaching experience:
We understand the importance of balancing coaching with other commitments. That’s why most NFL FLAG leagues are typically only a one-day-per week commitment, with a short practice session taking place before the game. We’ve found that this scheduling approach makes it easier for everyone to participate.
Each team is supported by a dedicated coaching staff, usually comprising up to three volunteers who fulfill distinct roles. At the minimum, our goal is to have at least two coaches per team.
Our coaching roster primarily consists of parents, relatives, or friends of players on the team. No prior coaching experience is required. Coaches often learn and grow alongside the participants, creating a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can succeed.
Coaching in NFL FLAG leagues is a rewarding opportunity, whether you’re new to the game or a seasoned expert!
